Responder Down

Founded by First Responders for First Responders

Mission Statement:

Responder Down aims to provide immediate financial support to the families of First Responders who have been killed in the line of duty nationwide.

Hello and welcome to our page. We are a start-up nationwide non-profit organization called Responder Down, and we need your help to start our mission. Responder Down was founded by First Responders for First Responders.

Responder Down recognizes First Responders as the following: Law Enforcement Officers, Corrections Officers, Firefighters, and Paramedics at the local, state, and federal level. This includes full-time, part-time, and volunteer status.

The Mission:

Responder Down aims to help families of First Responders killed in the line of duty with their sudden financial burden so they can focus on what is important, coping with the loss of their Hero. Responder Down aims to provide up to $12,000 immediately to the families of First Responders to cover funeral expenses. In the event that a funeral is already covered, Responder Down aims to provide up to $12,000 in the form of immediate financial assistance to the families of First Responders for whatever their need may be, such as bills, mortgage payments, etc.

As we know, the death of a loved one is devastating, especially one that comes suddenly. The goal of Responder Down is to ensure that families have time to cope with their loss without having to deal with financial stressors at the same time. Responder Down's focus is on what’s important, family.

The Need:

There is a wide variance across the United States as to how much coverage is provided for funeral expenses of a fallen First Responder, and in some cases, no coverage is provided at all, forcing the family to pay for the funeral. Many First Responder families live paycheck to paycheck, and with the national average cost of a funeral being $10,000, this can be financially devastating for a family as they also cope with the sudden loss of their Hero. Some states provide a death benefit to the families of fallen First Responders, but those disbursements can take up to one year to be paid out, thus causing further financial strain during a time of mourning. Many First Responder families do not have the financial resources to cope with abrupt funeral costs in addition to routine monthly expenses. Often times, the First Responder was the main source of income for the family.

The Facts:

Based on an 11 year trend of First Responder in the line of duty deaths, there was an average of 196 deaths per year. The goal of Responder Down is to assist the families of all fallen First Responders in a given year.
